The title of this post is one of the best phrases I’ve heard as a parent and food is one battle that I don’t want to enter. I’ve read an article a while ago saying that food should be something we share without fighting, something to be a pleasure – not pain. I agree 100% and don’t ask me how, but my son loves a bowl of salad between few other ‘weird’ things for a 3-year-old.
So, today he asked me to have waffles for supper. I made them. From scratch:
1 beaten egg, almost 1 cup of milk, 1/4 cup vegetable oil, 1 cup whole wheat flour, 1 teaspoon sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1/8 teaspoon salt – beat everything.
At the end, I added my secret: one cube of sweet potato, one of carrot and one of squash. Since my son started to eat solids, I keep some key vegetables frozen in cubes and ready to use.
Waffles ready, time to add some colour with frozen berries and the only real treat, a small scoop of ice cream.
I know the picture above looks like anything but a healthy supper… Probably you will think the same but, at the end, I had a happy and well-fed toddler at home!
