All in all, you deserve and need time to yourself. A refuel of the soul. Because a car can’t run on air, it need refuelling every once in a while. Just like YOU. And me.

I came across this quote today—part of a letter, really—and it stuck with me. It put into words something I’ve been feeling deeply.
As the seasons shifted and I started hiking again, I realized how much my soul was craving the dusty paths of a trail. The mountains here are different from those I used to climb, and it’s taken time to adjust. But the views? Breathtaking. I never get tired of the way the lakes glisten, how the light shifts across the hills. I bring those views to mind often, creating a sense of belonging—craving them when I’m not out chasing a summit or wandering toward higher ground.
After returning from Europe, stepping back into Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park felt like coming home. I took in everything—the path beneath my feet, the familiar trees, the bursts of green returning to life. One photo I took before the trip stayed with me throughout, a visual anchor pulling me back to this place.
Spring is in full swing now. The evergreens are joined by full-bodied trees, leaves unfolding more each day. It’s visual nourishment—eye candy in the best way. The burst of color this time of year makes spring my favorite season in the Okanagan. The temperatures are perfect for hiking, and the entire region becomes a quiet invitation to move, breathe, and just be.
Next comes summer, when the lakes warm up and welcome swimmers. But I’m not in a rush. Life in Vernon—with its true four seasons—reminds me to slow down, to stay present. And to refuel, one step, one view, one breath at a time.
