I am about to start a trip to Brazil. For two weeks, I will visit my city, Rio de Janeiro, and south of Brazil, where my parents and one sister live. The week in Rio will be very different this time: I am taking a friend with me and showing the city to a first-time visitor will be an interesting experience.
I started with a list of places I want to go, experiences I want to offer and food we need to try. At work, we have random meetings with people from all over the company – and the world! – to get to know each other. It’s voluntary and I have been doing those for a good chunk of the time I have been there.
The most recent one was with a world traveler and our conversation inspired me. I asked their favourite country and they answered with a series of questions: favourite for what? Culture? History? Food? I then realized I couldn’t answer my own question. Which one of the 40+ countries I visited is my favourite country?
Being an immigrant, I know what I miss about my country that I can’t export: the people, family and FOOD! All the fresh fruits we can get. All the special food we can’t find anywhere else. I do miss the happiness, the music, people on the streets talking, eating, dancing. This is what I want to show to a foreign visitor.
I will report back how it went, btw… 🙂
