In August 2010, my husband was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer stage 4. He was 49 years old and our son was 3. We came from Brazil together and had our Canadian son two years after moving to our new country. The cancer news came a day before we became Canadians.
As devastated as this news were, I did my best to keep him hopeful and healthy for as long as possible and this included finding a naturopath, an alkaline diet, the Budwig diet, some books and lots and lots of hope.
He passed away on Jan 05, 2013, at home. I was 42 years old and it was the first time I was the primary caregiver of someone on a palliative care. I had to learn everything on the spot and I barely had time to understand what I was going through. The posts kept my sanity for a good chunk of the time and they ended up being the spine of a book I am writing about this process.
This blog is the result of what I learned during these difficult times and how I am grieving through my son. It is sad but it is also a beautiful and peaceful story. I hope I can transmit all the peace we feel and the privilege to have shared Ricardo’s life and death.
Thanks for visiting,
Helena
