A week at Disney World!

Last week I ended up at Disney World. Not sure how that happened, but I had a wonderful week with my son!

My plan was to visit my special friend Vivianne in Boca Raton, Florida. I was dreaming with beaches and a restful trip. For some of those reasons that you can’t really plan, I ended up at Disney World, without my friend! She couldn’t leave Brazil at this time and I decided to embrace Disney’s experience with my son.

I am an outdoor person. I like mountains. I like empty spaces. I don’t like long lines. And I hate roller coaster or any haunted thing or movie. Having said that, I have a son and I love his company. I love traveling with him. By the way, he is a great traveler for such a young boy…

So there I was planning an almost last-minute trip to Disney World with my son. A whole week. Four parks. Two water parks. Luckily for me, Ian is so decided that we planned all the attractions he wanted to go, in order of importance. And we were very controlled: just two or three ‘green’ attractions per park, as Ian said ‘green means go’!

For a stress-free trip, we stayed the whole week on Disney’s All Start Music Resort. If you stay in any of Disney’s resorts, you have free transportation from Orlando Airport and between the hotel, the parks, the water parks and downtown Disney – buses leaving your resort every five or ten minutes until an hour after the attraction is closed.

Food I decided to go with the flow – of our stomachs! And it worked pretty well. They have food everywhere and we just had sandwich twice during the whole week – because we wanted as we had other options. And quite cheap. Around US $50 a day for both of us is not bad at all!

The exception was a reservation at Chef Mickey’s restaurant, in the Contemporary Resort, inside Magic Kingdom. The only time available was on the first evening, at 9:30 pm and I just agreed because we were two hours behind, still Mountain Time in our brains. But I didn’t regret it as the food was very good and we had Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck, Pluto and Goofy visiting our table! Ian, who said character spotting was ‘booorrrriiinnnggg’, of course was loving every second of it!

Pluto and IanThat’s it for now. I will keep adding to this blog about Disney, one park at a time. Tips and our impressions about Disney World. As Ian told me, ‘Mommy, do you wanna know why they made Disney World? Because they wanted people to have fun!’

And if you are wondering, we didn’t stop our grief because we were away. Far from it, I strongly believe Ricardo was there with us all the time…
